The United States border station was built in 1937, and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2014. Prior to 1930, the Canada border station was located in Killarney, Manitoba, some 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the international border, which was both inconvenient for local residents, and vulnerable to smuggling.[1] The border station was built in Lena, Manitoba in 1930, and was replaced in 1961.
