St.John's Church (Azerbaijani: Müqəddəs İohann kilsəsi; German: St. Johanniskirche) — German Lutheran church located in Helenendorf, Azerbaijan.

History

First stone for St. John's Church laid in 24 April 1854 in Helenendorf,[1] next to a parish school (completed in 1842).[2] Church was completed in 10 March 1857 and was first Lutheran church in the area what is now Azerbaijan. Its first pastor was Georg Heinrich Reitenbach (1832-1840).[3] It functioned as a church until 1941, when it was converted into a sports hall. During Second World War church was used as a military hospital.

Today

Since 2005, it is functioning as Goygol Local History Museum. Church was renovated and restored in 2008 by German Technical Cooperation Society.
