St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office (SLPSO) is the primary law enforcement agency of St. Landry Parish. It falls under the authority of the Sheriff, who is the chief law enforcement officer of the parish. U.S. Representative Clay Higgins was a public relations officer for the department, which gained him a following once it was featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.[1]

The Sheriff

The sheriff of St. Landry Parish is Bobby J. Guidroz. Sheriff Guidroz has over 40 years in the field of law-enforcement and criminal justice, having attained the rank of Lieutenant/Supervisor of State Police Patrol Division, Gaming Enforcement Division, Lieutenant/Supervisor Criminal and Administrative Investigative Sections, Sergeant in State Police Public Affairs Section. He is married and has three children, and nine grandchildren.[2]

Substations

The department is divided up into four substations, with its headquarters at the northeast quadrant of I-49 north and U.S. 190 east. The physical address of the St. Landry Parish Law enforcement Complex is 1592 East Prudhomme Street, Opelousas, Louisiana. The substations are as follows:

  • Eunice - The Eunice Sub-Station is located at 101 Moosa Blvd in Eunice. Working out of the Sub-Station in Eunice are two criminal detectives, two narcotic officers, eight patrolmen, four dispatchers, one tax collector / dispatcher, and one supervisor.
    Commander - Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux.

Other Facilities

The Sheriff's Office also operates the following facilities in addition to the substations:

  • Headquarters - The headquarters building is located at 108 South Market Street in Opelousas.

Fallen officers

Since the formation of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, one Sheriff has been killed in the line of duty.[3]
