St. Peter Cathedral, Riobamba

The St. Peter Cathedral[1] (Spanish: Catedral de San Pedro) Also Riobamba Cathedral[2] Is the name that receives a temple affiliated to the Catholic Church that is located in the streets 5 of June between José Veloz and Espejo in the city of Riobamba[3] part of the province of Chimborazo[4] in the South American country of Ecuador.

It emphasizes its façade of baroque style restored of an old structure destroyed by the earthquake of 1797 and in which it mixes Spanish and indigenous elements. The current structure was built between 1810 and 1835. It was rebuilt in 1967.

The temple follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother church of the Diocese of Riobamba (Dioecesis Rivibambensis) which was created as Diocese of Bolivar in 1862 in the pontificate of Pope Pius IX and assumed its current name in 1955.

This is under the pastoral responsibility of Bishop Julio Parrilla Díaz.
