Overview

As of December 2019, Study.com offers 4,500 online courses, more than 80,000 video lessons and quizzes, and 12,000 lesson plans over the learning continuum. This includes the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), business, psychology, history, humanities, social science, and professional development. The platform includes study materials and courses from grade school through college and beyond. Study.com helps over 30 million students and partners with 1,500 universities.[2]

Courses

Study.com provides microlearning courses through 5-10 minutes animated video lessons. The videos and courses can be accessed by the students through their laptops, tablets or smartphones. Students can also access the video material by listening or reading. The course material is developed by professors, curriculum developers and subject matter experts; and reviewed by independent evaluators and faculty panels at the American Council on Education and the National College Credit Recommendation Service. The platform also includes assessments, quizzes, exercises, assignments, and final online proctored examinations.[2]

Philanthropy

In 2017, the company founded Working Scholars as a program to provide a no-cost, no-debt Bachelor’s degree to underserved communities and working adults in Mountain View, California. The program has since expanded to other communities and received philanthropic support from companies and foundations, including the Walmart Foundation, Facebook, Google, Duke Realty, and the Peery Foundation, among others. It was named 2018 California Non-Profit of the Year.[7] Former East Palo Alto mayor, Lisa Gauthier graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2019 from Thomas Edison State University through the Working Scholars program.[8][9][10]

The company also donated 100,000 licenses to public schools and districts across the nation to support online learning and help provide uninterrupted education to K-12 students during the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic.[1][11]

Awards and recognition

Study.com was the recipient of National Parenting Product Award Winner at the National Parenting Product Awards (NAPAA) in 2019.[12] The platform also received the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval in 2019[13] and the Academics' Choice Smart Media Award 2019.[14] It was also the recipient of Bronze Stevie Award at American Business Awards 2016.[15]
