TJ Ducklo

TJ Ducklo (born September 22, 1988) is an American political advisor who is a White House deputy press secretary for the Biden Administration. Ducklo previously worked as the national press secretary for the Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign.[3]

Education

Ducklo received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political communication from George Washington University in 2011.[4]

Career

Ducklo's previous political worked as a staff assistant for James Carville and Mary Matalin.[4] Ducklo volunteered for Karl Dean's 2007 Nashville mayoral campaign and interned in the United States Senate in 2008.[4] Ducklo also worked on Washington, D.C.'s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.[4] Ducklo has also held senior media relations posts at Bloomberg News, Viacom, and the Motion Picture Association of America.[5] Ducklo also worked as a public relations advisor for Showtime's 2016 documentary The Circus.[5]

In his role on the Biden campaign, Ducklo helped negotiate the strategy in which Democratic primary rivals Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg drop out of the race and endorse Joe Biden in the aftermath of the South Carolina primary.[6] According to Ducklo, the campaign used their momentum from South Carolina as a "springboard" into Super Tuesday, which saw Biden win ten states including battlegrounds like Texas, Virginia, and North Carolina.[6][7]

Ducklo joined the Biden campaign in April 2019, his first major role on a political campaign.[4] Before joining the Biden campaign, Ducklo worked as senior communications director for NBC News.[5] On January 15, 2021, it was announced that Ducklo would serve as a White House deputy press secretary in the incoming Biden Administration.[8]

Personal life

In December 2019, Ducklo announced on Twitter that he had been diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer.[9]
