History

Task & Purpose was founded in 2014 by Iraq War veteran Zach Iscol, Brian Jones, and Lauren Katzenberg.[2][3][4] It is a news and culture site that focuses on young U.S. veterans and their concerns, particularly those who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.[4] In 2018 managing editor Adam Weinstein resigned after being requested to change the title of a ProPublica investigation into undue influence over the Department of Veterans Affairs featured on the site, as he felt it was undue influence on his editorial independence, and was not the first time.[1][5]

Task & Purpose was rated by Media Bias/Fact Check in June 2019 as having "factual, well-sourced, and fairly presented content," which combined with the overall quality of the site earned it a "Least Biased" rating, and a "High" for factual reporting.[6]

In October 2020, Task & Purpose was acquired by North Equity LLC.[7]
