Tasos Konstantinou

Tasos Konstantinou (11 March 1951 – 27 October 2019), simply known as "Tasos", was a Cypriot international footballer, who played as an wing forward, mainly on the right side.

Early life

Born in Paliometocho, Konstantinou was a member of a football family as his three brothers Charis and Chabis and Andreas Assiotis played for APOEL, Olympiakos Nicosia and ASIL respactively. When he was 12 went to London, where he joined the U18 team of Fulham and left after 3 years as he was approached from EPA Larnaca in order to join their youth team.[1]

Club career

Konstantinou started his professional from EPA Larnaca, with which the period 1969–70 won the championship. In 1970, at the age of 19 he became the top scorer of the league, scoring a total of 15 goals.[2] He was also named player of the season.

In 1972, at the age of 21, he joined AEK Athens, in which he quickly became a regular.During his 8-year-presence he won two championships and a cup making a double-crown in 1977–78 season. He left AEK in December 1980, recording a total of 147 appearances and 50 goals in league games, 21 appearances and 7 goals for the cup, while his contribution to the European competitions, having 20 appearances and 6 goals, culminating in the 1977 UEFA Cup when it reached its semifinals.[3]

He continued for 6 months until the end of the season 1980–81 in Atromitos, where he had 14 appearances[4] and then joined Vyzas Megara in the 2nd division in the period 1981–82, at the end of which he ended his football career.

International career

Konastantinou played 13 times for Cyprus and scored 1 goal.[5]

Death

Konstantinou died in 2019 at the age of 68 after facing serious health issues.[6]
