Telford urban area

The Telford Urban Area is an urban area which surrounds the large town of Telford in Shropshire, England. The urban area includes towns both inside and outside of the borough of Telford and Wrekin such as Broseley, Newport and Shifnal. The total population of the urban area is around 176,854. Newport is part of the borough of Telford and Wrekin but has its own town council. The area also includes the towns of Ironbridge, Dawley, Oakengates, Wellington, Madeley and Ketley which are already part of the large town which was designated a new town apart from Ironbridge which is separated from the town by the Ironbridge Gorge.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

Population

The population of Telford's built-up area was 147,980 according to the 2011 census.[9] At the 2001 census, the urban area had 138,241 people.[10]
