Thaumaturgis

Thaumaturgis is a monotypic moth genus in the family Gelechiidae. Its single species, Thaumaturgis craterocrossa, is found in South Africa. Both the genus and species were first described by Edward Meyrick in 1934.[1][2]

The wingspan is about 12 mm. The forewings are whitish ochreous, with some minute scattered blackish specks and a black dot towards the costa near the base. There is an erect blackish pointed fasciate blotch from the dorsum before the middle reaching three-fourths of the way across the wing and a semi-circular blackish blotch on the costa at about two-thirds with a short strigula from the middle beneath, edged with ochreous-yellow suffusion. There is an ill-defined triangular blackish tornal spot. The posterior costal and apical margin are ochreous yellow. The hindwings are grey, the veins darker suffused.[3]
