Content

The book deals with American history, capitalism, and "skewers" the two main American political parties.[1] It also features cartoons from Eli Valley. The book originally contained parodies of several comic strips, but they were cut for legal reasons.

Reception

The book received positive reviews in Salon, Paste, Newsweek and Harper's Magazine.[4][5][6][7] However, in a review for Politico, a publication frequently criticized by Chapo Trap House, liberal pundit Bill Scher asked if The Chapo Guide to Revolution was the "stupidest book ever written about socialism." [8] Scher adopts a tone of bewilderment with the authors' choices, such as talking about the widely documented phenomenon of neoliberalism as if it actually exists, framing the Cold War in socialist terms (i.e., capitalism vs. its perceived threats) and not liberal ones (freedom vs. totalitarianism), failing to conclude that the United States' role in the Korean War was justified or that "[c]ontainment of the Soviet Union made sense," and critiquing Democratic presidents without sufficiently crediting their successes.
