History and presently

The mall is located on the same area of Talat Ming Mueang (ตลาดมิ่งเมือง), the notable market for ready-made garments and center of tailor shops including also a bus terminus in the 1970s. Before that, it was the site of the Burapha Phirom Palace (วังบูรพาภิรมย์; aka Wang Burapha) which is the grand palace of Prince Bhanurangsi Savangwongse, who is one of the brothers of King Rama V. After World War II, the palace was sold and became a very popular shopping center for young people of Thailand in the 1950s and 1960s. It is home to three cinemas and another nearby as Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre. But in later times, Wang Burapha is sluggish because Siam Square has replaced. The last cinema here was close down in the early 1990s.[2]

The Old Siam Plaza was built and opened officially in 1993. The building is a Colonial mixed Thai architectural styles, this makes it seem back in time to the glory days of this neighbourhood.[3]

Lan Ming Mueang

At present, it has 4 floors on an area of 14 rai (about 5.5 acres). The ground floor surrounding the building is filled with gun shops, as well as nearby streets and in the building is also divided into 2 large plazas are Lan Ming Mueang (ลานมิ่งเมือง) for sale clothes especially Thai period costume, and Lan Fueang Nakhon (ลานเฟื่องนคร) is a center of Thai food, especially Thai desserts that're rare in many kinds.[3][4]

In addition, on the 3rd floor is a food court. It is a gathering place for karaoke activities of the elderly. They gathered here to commemorate their past as a teenager in the Wang Burapha.[5][6]
