The Spinoff

The Spinoff is a New Zealand online commentary and opinion magazine started by Duncan Greive in 2014. The site began as a blog about TV shows that was sponsored by the streaming platform, Lightbox.[2] It quickly broadened its scope and now covers a range of topics including New Zealand politics, pop culture and social issues, often from a politically progressive or left-wing perspective.[3]

The Spinoff TV

The Spinoff TV is a TV show that covered current affairs, pop culture, and media and was created as a collaboration between The Spinoff and MediaWorks.[4] It is hosted by Alex Casey and Leonie Hayden, and aired on Three. It premiered on 22 June 2018,[5] and aired its final episode on 5 October 2018.[6] Its first season had 16 episodes; it was not renewed for a second season.

Arts coverage

In 2019, The Spinoff received funding from Creative New Zealand to commission articles on contemporary New Zealand art and artists.[7] The art section is edited by New Zealand critics Mark Amery and Megan Dunn.[8]
