Griffiths was born in Willington Quay, Northumberland, and played for his home-town club before moving into the Football League with Lincoln City.[4] He made his debut on 26 August 1922 in a 3–1 defeat away to Halifax Town in the Third Division North. This was Griffiths' only season with Lincoln City, and he finished as joint leading scorer alongside Harry Pringle, though the pair scored only seven goals apiece.[3] He then returned to the north-east of England where he played for Jarrow of the North Eastern League and made one further Football League appearance, for Ashington in the 1923–24 season.[4]
He was later employed at a colliery.[1] He died in Morpeth, aged 81.[2]
