Thomond Bridge

Thomond Bridge is a road bridge spanning the River Shannon in Limerick, Ireland.[1][2] The bridge is named for the Kingdom of Thomond.[3]

Thomond Bridge

History

The current bridge was built in 1836, replacing an earlier bridge that was built near a fording point. The bridge is the oldest bridge in the town, it was the scene of the Siege of Limerick with the Treaty Stone standing at the western side, and King John's Castle on the eastern side.[4][5]

The road that crosses the bridge is now part of the R445 regional road (formerly N7).[6]
