In Babylonian mythology, Tiamat is a participant in the creation of the universe. This book series uses historical references for its titles.[1]
Premise
Following the establishment of an interstellar empire, High Consul Winston Duarte pursues the evolution of human life through the use of the "protomolecule" that has driven galactic exploration. James Holden, former captain of the gunship Rocinante and a protagonist of the previous novels in the series, is Duarte's captive. While Duarte's scientists explore the uses of the protomolecule, the surviving members of the Rocinante's crew work to free humanity from Duarte's dominion.[2][3][4]
Characters
Main characters in the book include many from earlier in the series, including James Holden, Naomi Nagata, Bobbie Draper, Alex Kamal, Elvi Okoye, and Winston Duarte. The book introduces Duarte's 14-year-old daughter, Teresa, who is being trained as his successor.[2][4]
