Tony Randerson

Anthony Penrose Randerson CNZM QC is a New Zealand jurist. He was appointed New Zealand Chief High Court Judge on 16 December 2004.[1][2] He was subsequently appointed to the Court of Appeal of New Zealand with effect from 1 February 2010,[3] and retired as the longest serving judge of that court in May 2017.[4]

In 1990, he chaired a review group for Simon Upton that finalised the Resource Management Act 1991.[5]

Randerson, a University of Auckland graduate, was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1996 and appointed to the High Court in 1997.[1] He has also sat from time to time in the Divisional Courts of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand. In the 2021 New Year Honours, Randerson was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to the judiciary.[6]

His brother is Bishop Richard Randerson, former Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland.[7]
