Trevor Leighton
Trevor Leighton (born 1957) is a Carlisle-born photographer[1] whose work features in major galleries, most notably the National Portrait Gallery, of which he has the largest number of photographs on display by a single photographer.[2]
He is known for his celebrity and fashion work; names include British stars Kate Bush,[3] Dawn French,[4] John Hurt,[5] Bob Monkhouse,[4] and Lisa Snowden[6] and international stars such as Indian actress Kareena Kapoor.[7] He is also known for his photography work for The Fairtrade Foundation and has photographed stars Vic Reeves,[8] Amanda Burton, Fearne Cotton,[9] Richard Wilson,[9] Harry Hill[9] and others.[10]
Leighton is the author of a book called "The Jokers", a coffee-table tome featuring portraits of the funniest people working on television, radio and the stage,[11] and these photographs have also featured in a National Portrait Gallery touring exhibition entitled "Comedians: From the 1940s to Now".[12]
His portrait of Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, the stars of Absolutely Fabulous, was among the British 'faces of the century' in a National Portrait Gallery exhibition in 1999.[13]
