While working as a teacher, Susie had difficulty sourcing materials for her lessons, which led the couple to begin creating their own resources and publishing these online. Twinkl now creates digital teaching materials for educators worldwide.[8] This includes materials for primary schools,[9] secondary schools, parents[10][11] home educators,[12] childminders, English as a second language, special educational needs and disabilities, adult education,[13] and international markets.[14]

The company moved to its current HQ in Sheffield, England in 2014.[8] As of 2020, the company has over 710 team members in 15 locations around the world. In 2017, Twinkl opened a second office[15] in Wollongong, Australia.[16][17]

In April 2018, Twinkl received The Queen's Award for Enterprise[18] for the company's work in international trade.[19]

In 2019 Twinkl was ranked at number 28 on The Sunday Times WorldFirst SME Export Track 100. The track ranks SMEs (small medium enterprises) with the fastest-growing international sales over the last two years.[20]

In 2019, Twinkl received a Guinness World Record. The record was set for ‘most people in a singing relay - multiple songs.[21] In total, 384 people took part.

In 2020, Twinkl received The Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation.[22]

Jonathan Seaton, Co-Founder and CEO of Twinkl Educational Publishing was awarded an Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for Twinkl’s services to Technology and Education during the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020.[23]

Twinkl offered all its resources for free to parents, teachers and carers globally during the Coronavirus school closures.[24]

Twinkl partnered with BBC Bitesize to supply educational materials to support home learning.[25]

In 2019, Twinkl launched a startup accelerator called TwinklHive.[29] This is based in Sheffield, UK.
