Víctor Fenton

Víctor Fenton (1865 - 1938) was a distinguished doctor of medicine of Irish origin, who took part in the early colonization of the Province of Santa Cruz in Patagonia Argentina.[2] He was the second doctor to serve in Río Gallegos, supplanting his brother Arthur Willington Fenton as a doctor of the government. He also held various political positions, including interim governor of the national territory of Santa Cruz in 1892.[3]

He was born in Sligo, Ireland, the son of Michael Fenton and Jane Russel, belonging to a distinguished family. He studied at the Trinity College Dublin, where he received a doctorate in medicine.[4] He was married first to Geraldine Pearl, born in England, and second with Asención de Rosas, belonging to an Argentine family.[5]

Permanently established in Argentine Patagonia, he dedicated himself to raising cattle,[6] and also to politics, serving as municipal councilor,[7] and interim governor on several occasions.[8] In 1906 he was appointed to integrate the honorary commission on immigration of the town of Río Gallegos, chaired by M. Canaveri,[9] the son of Samuel Canaveris, mayor of Río Gallegos in 1916 and 1917.[10]
