Victoria Athletics

The Victoria Athletics were a Western International League baseball team based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada that existed from 1946 to 1951. From 1947 to 1949, they were affiliated with the New York Yankees. They played their home games at Royal Athletic Park.[1]

The Victoria Athletics team began officially in 1946, with Reg Patterson as General manager, Laurel Harney as Manager and Arthur E. Cox as President. Patterson, also played and caught a few games in the first year.

In the second, more organized year, Ted Norbert, an ex major league player took over the role of manager for 1947 and 1948. Ted played,as well as manager and was more successful in his second year , finishing in third place. Both Patterson and Cox continued in their roles, until the newly named Tyees collapsed due to lack of funds. "Tyee",is a term referring to a spring salmon weighing over 30 pounds. The highpoints of the Victoria teams were a third place finish in 1948, along with a championship for the newly named Tyees, in 1952.
