Wer (god)

Wer, also known as Ber, El-wer and Iluwer, is an Akkadian storm god, a minor deity linked with Adad and Amurru. His name appears in enscriptions around the Mari area throughout the second millennium BCE. [1]

In the Neo-Babylonian editions of the Epic of Gilgamesh he is the focus of one of the sagas. His attendant is the fierce guardian of the pine forest, Humbaba. His cult centres include Afis, south of Aleppo. In the Neo-Assyrian versions of Gilgamesh he is replaced by Enlil.[1]
