He served as town clerk from 1879 to 1884, and was town supervisor from 1884 to 1890. He was also overseer of the poor for a year and was also a member of the Oswego County Republican Committee.[1] He also owned a shoe store in Oswego.[2]

In 1889, Selleck was elected to the New York State Assembly as a Republican, representing the Oswego County 2nd District. He served in the Assembly in 1890, 1891, and 1892.[3] He served as sheriff from 1894 to 1897. In 1898, he was appointed deputy customs collector.
