William Davenport (slave trader)
William Davenport (1716-1794) was a Liverpool slave trader, he was responsible for 155 slave voyages.[1] He pioneered the Liverpool to Old Calabar route.[2]
Papers relating to Daveport are held at the Merseyside Maritime Museum.[3] The papers were discovered on the Antiques Road Show and subsequently purchased by the museum. They comprise 12 leather bound volumes, and 13 bundles of letters offering a detailed account of the trade.[4]
He participated in the Chesapeake slave trade, transporting slaves to North America.[5]
