William Young (referee)

William "Willie" Young (born 21 December 1955 Clarkston, Scotland) was a Scottish international football referee, lawyer.[1]

Career

He officiated 9 international matches and was member of FIFA in 1994-2000. He attributed a match in EURO 2000 qualifying played Georgia-Greece (1:2) and a match in 2002 World Cup qualifying played Norway-Armenia (0:0)[2] and others were in friendly matches.He also refereed a match in UEFA Women's Euro 1995 played between Sweden-Norway (4:1). He appointed two penalty kick in friendly match Northern Ireland-Germany (1:1) in 1996 against Northern Ireland but all of them missed by germans Jürgen Klinsmann and Andreas Möller.[3] He gave a red card in friendly match Mexico-Egypt (3:0) in 1999 to egyptian Ibrahim Hassan in 60th minute.[4]

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League qualification (1), UEFA Cup and qualification (6+2) and Intertoto Cup (4). [5] He refereed 133 Scottish Premiership matches in 1997-2005. William Young attributed 1998 Scottish Cup Final that played between Heart of Midlothian and Rangers (2:1).

Personal life

He married with Margots. Until 2014 he directed scottish legal firm Brechin Tindal Oatts. Willie is currently member of UEFA and Scottish Football Association referee observers.[6]
