XuetangX

XuetangX is a massive open online course (MOOC) platform. It offers online courses in multiple disciplines and also certificate and degree programs. Launched on 10 October 2013 as the first[2] Chinese MOOC platform, XuetangX was initiated by Tsinghua University and MOE Research Center for Online Education, for the purposes of communication and the application of research in the field of online education.[3]

Timeline

2016:

  • XuetangX launched Rain Classroom, a new type of smart toolbox for blended learning, jointly developed by Tsinghua University and XuetangX.[4]
  • XuetangX partnered with the SDG Academy, enabling the SDG Academy to share sustainable development content across China.[5]
  • XuetangX and Telefónica Educación Digital present the launch in China of the International Service for the Evaluation of the Spanish Language (SIELE), a system that certifies the degree of mastery of the Spanish language by digital means.[6]

2017:

  • XuetangX, in partnership with University of Lagos in Nigeria, has launched LAGOS MOOC,[7] allowing students of Lagos to access to 12 courses from Tsinghua University.[8]
  • XuetangX managed to collaborate with Zhengzhou University and launched their first Medical online master's degree in Mainland China.[9]

2018:

  • In March 2018, XuetangX signed partnership agreement with French national MOOC platform FUN. The two platform exchange course resources to benefit students in both countries.[10]

2019:

  • XuetangX released a new version based on a new self-developed frame instead of open edX. The new version brought in a new look, new functions and new learning style.[11]

2020:

  • XuetangX launched its international version on April 20.[12] The international version of XuetangX offers an English-language interface with other languages including Russian, Spanish, French and Japanese, to be added very soon.[13]

  • XuetangX has so far published over 2,300 courses, covering 13 categories of subjects.

Solutions for higher education institutions

  • In June, 2018, XuetangX published the Intelligence-based Pedagogic Ecology Solution, which consists of an in-class Intelligence-based Pedagogic platform “Rain Classroom”, an online education platform on campus “Xuetang Cloud”, an operation platform for online courses “XuetangX” and the internationalization platform for the courses.
  • Micro Degree is created by XuetangX and universities.
  • XuetangX provides customized training program for university teachers.

Solutions for lifelong learning

  • XuetangX provides several programs including Training Camp, certificate programs, online degree programs to implement its vision of being a leading global platform of lifelong learning.[14][15]
