YDC was founded in 2012 by Asvin Srivatsangam and published its first graphic novel in 2013, written by Suryoday De and Shamik Dasgupta.

The name 'YALI' (யாளி) was inspired from Hindu Mythology. Yali ([jaːɭi]; also known as Vyala or Vidala in Sanskrit) is a mythical creature seen in many Hindu temples, often sculpted onto the pillars.

Publication history

In July 2012, an Indo-American IT professional named Asvin Srivatsangam founded YDC . Asvin Srivatsangam met with Comic Writer Shamik Dasgupta and Suryoday De through social media. They decided to create a graphic novel., The Caravan. It was launched at Bangalore Comic Con 2013, India.

Summer 2012

YDC launched The Caravan, an 80 paged graphic novel, in July 2013. The story was scripted by Shamik Dasgupta, and pencils and inks were by Bikash Satpathy, and colors by Vishwanath Manokaran. The Caravan is a classic horror-action-adventure in the trend of ‘from dusk till dawn’ and 30 days of night’ with Bollywood influence.

Spring 2014

YDC created a graphic novel adaption of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's Devi Chaudhurani. Volume 1 of Devi Chaudhurani was launched at Calcutta Book Fair 2014. The team that were involved was Shamik Dasgupta, Bikash Satpathy and Vishwanath Manokaran.

YDC launched a prequel to The Caravan with The Caravan: Blood war. The first issue was launched in Bangalore Comic Con 2014.

Spring 2015

YDC launched The Caravan: Blood War Issue 3.

Summer 2015

YDC published an Hindi translation of The Caravan,

Winter 2015

YDC launched Caravan: Blood War Issue 4, the final novel in the series, at the Delhi Comic Con 2015. Asvin Srivatsangam and Shamik Dasgupta met with writer and artist Ty Templeton. They also met with Valiant Comics' CEO Dinesh Shamdasani.

Summer 2017

YDC published the fourth part of the Rakshak Origin series, and the award-winning graphic novel, The Village written by Shamik Dasgupta and co written by Suryoday De. Rakshak was officially published on July 26, 2016.

In October 2019, The Village was optioned for a web series adaptation to a major stream platform.

YDC has been working on Rakshak: CrackDown, The Caravan: Vengeance, Scions of Cursed King, Bhumika and Gandiva.
