Early life and education

Yogida Sawmynaden was born in a Tamil Hindu family in Mauritius. After attending primary school Beau Séjours in Belle Rose he attended secondary school Collège du St Esprit in Quatre Bornes. He then travelled to England where he studied accounting, law and business administration. He later went to France to complete higher studies in international management.[1]

Political career

Yogida's political career started in 2001 when he became councillor of the Municipality of Beau Bassin Rose Hill. In 2003 he was appointed Deputy Mayor of Beau Bassin Rose Hill.

In December 2014 he was MSM's candidate within Alliance Lepep coalition in Constituency No.8 Moka-Quartier Militaire. He was elected behind his running mates Leela Dookun and Pravind Jugnauth. [2]

At the 07 November 2019 general elections Yogida Sawmynaden stood as candidate of the MSM within the L'Alliance Morisien.[3] He was elected as 3rd Member for Constituency No.8 Moka Quartier Militaire in the National Assembly, behind Pravind Jugnauth and Leela Dookun.[4] On 12 November 2019 he was appointed Minister of Commerce.[5]

Criminal and Corruption Cases intended on him

The Minister is subject to a potential implication in a murder case which is being divulged to the press and the public by a team of lawyers nicknamed the "Avengers". The details and potential evidences brought forward by the Avengers seem to directly implicate the minister and his entourage but also suggest the occurrence of a huge cover-up. This clicks the mind being potentially similar to the Sushant Singh Rajput case in India.[6]

There is also a private prosecution which was lodged in december 2020 against him by the wife of the above-mentioned murdered victim, for allegedly falsely declaring that he employed her as a constituency clerk (case relating to possible matter of fictitious job). The case has been adjourned until the 29th January 2021 pending an ongoing police investigation which has been started on the same matter.
