Yusuf Abdullahi Ata

Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, (born 22 June 1962) is a Nigerian politician, economist and teacher from Kano state who served as speaker in Kano State House of Assembly between 2017 and 2018.

Early life and education

born 1962 in Fagge quarters of Kano State, He attended Fagge Primary School 1968 – 1975 then proceed to Aminu Kano Community Commercial College 1975 – 1980. He graduate from Bayero University, Kano (BUK) in 1984 with BS'c in Economics. In 2001 he also gained his Masters in Development Studies at same University Bayero University, Kano, (BUK), and did his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Sokoto atete in 1985.

Career

He started as a classroom teacher, later in 1992 he was transfer to Ministry of Education serving as inspector in Business Education 1994. In 1997 he was Kano State Housing Cooperation as Principal Planning Officer from, before retiring.

He later join politics and was elected member Kano State House of Assembly representing Fagge constituency and served as chairman House Committee on Appropriation in 2003. During the 2003 General Election he lost his sit in the House. And then he return to Kano State House of Assembly in 2011 there he served as chairman House Committee on Finance. In 2015 he was selected as Majority Leader in Kano State House of Assembly, and later he became speaker Kano State House of Assembly as the result of the resignation of his predecessor Rt. Hon Kabiru Alhassan Rurum due to the allegation.[3]

Ata became Speaker Kano State House of Assembly as the result of the resignation of his predecessor Rt. Hon Kabiru Alhassan Rurum due to the allegation against him, before nomination he was the Majority Leader of Kano State House of Assembly[4] he was elected in the 2015 Nigerian general election,[5] to represent his Constituency of Fagge for the third term he was first elected to the Kano State House of Assembly in the year 1999 On Monday 30 July 2018 Ata[6] was Impeached by 27 Members out of the 40 Members of Kano State House of Assembly were they claim that he cannot run the affairs of the house, the motion was raise by Abdulmadari Member Representing Warawa Constituency and second by Abdullahi Chiromawa Member Representing Kura/Garum Mallam Constituency[7] he was replaced by Kabiru Alhassan Rurum who was his deputy.
