Zac Rosscup

Zachary Martin Rosscup (born June 9, 1988) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies organization. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs, Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and Toronto Blue Jays.

Amateur career

Born in Clackamas, Oregon, Rosscup attended Forest Grove High School. Rosscup later attended Chemeketa Community College for two seasons, before being drafted in the MLB. During his freshman season at Chemeketa, Rosscup held a 1.55 ERA and earned numerous honors.[1]

Professional career

Tampa Bay Rays

Rosscup was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 28th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft out of Chemeketa Community College. The Rays traded Rosscup with Matt Garza and Fernando Perez to the Chicago Cubs for Sam Fuld, Chris Archer, Hak-Ju Lee, Brandon Guyer, and Robinson Chirinos in 2011.[2]

Rosscup was called up to the majors for the first time on September 3, 2013. In ten games he had an ERA of 1.35, but started the 2014 season at Triple A Iowa Cubs.[3] Rosscup was called up again on April 16, 2014, to be available for the Chicago Cubs day-night doubleheader.[3]

On September 23, 2014, Rosscup was credited with his first career win in a walk off Cubs victory against the St. Louis Cardinals.

He resigned a minor league deal on December 9, 2016.[4] Rosscup was designated for assignment on June 22, 2017, and traded to the Colorado Rockies for Matt Carasiti on June 26.

Colorado Rockies

Rosscup made his début as a Rockie against the New York Mets at Citi Field, July 14, 2017, after Jon Gray was forced out of the game in the third inning.

Los Angeles Dodgers

On July 11, 2018, Rosscup was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers.[5] On August 19, 2018, Rosscup threw an immaculate inning against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington.[6] In 17 games for the Dodgers, he struck out 20 batters in ​11 1⁄3 innings. He was designated for assignment on November 20, 2018[7] and released the following day.[8]

Seattle Mariners

On December 20, 2018, Rosscup signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Mariners.[9] In 14 innings, he struck out 20 while inducing 14 walks. Rosscup was designated for assignment on May 17, 2019.

Toronto Blue Jays

On May 23, 2019, Rosscup was claimed on waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.[10] He was designated for assignment on May 28. He was outrighted to Buffalo on June 2, but elected free agency rather than report.[11]

Second Stint With Dodgers

On June 12, 2019, Rosscup signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers added him to the MLB roster on June 27.[12] On July 15, he was designated for assignment by the Dodgers. On July 29, He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Cash Considerations.[13]

On July 29, 2019, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for cash considerations.[14] He elected free agency on October 1.

Second Stint with Rockies

On January 31, 2020, Rosscup signed a minor league deal with the Colorado Rockies. Rosscup was released by the Rockies organization on July 1, 2020. On August 25, 2020, Rosscup signed another minor league contract with the Rockies,[15] who added him to their 60-man player pool. He became a free agent on November 2, 2020. On December 11, 2020, Rosscup re-signed with the Rockies organization on a minor league contract.
