Fresno State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 2] The 1933 team was led by first-year head coach Leo Harris and played home games at Fresno State College Stadium[note 3] on the campus of Fresno City College in Fresno, California. They finished the season with a record of five wins and four losses (5–4, 1–2 FWC). The Bulldogs outscored their opponents 98–71 for the season.

- California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) was known as Fresno State Normal School from 1911 to 1948.
- The Northern California Athletic Conference (NCAC) was known as the Far Western Conference (FWC) from its founding in 1925 to 1982.
- Ratcliffe Stadium was known as Fresno State College Stadium from 1926 to 1940.
- What is now known as the Pomona-Pitzer football team played using just the Pomona College name from 1893 to 1949. Pitzer College did not exist until 1963.
- University of California, Davis was known as Northern Branch of the College of Agriculture from 1922 to 1959. In common usage, the sports teams were called the "Cal Aggies" from 1924 until the mid 1970s.
- Arizona State University was known as Arizona State Teachers College from 1929 to 1944.
