The 1988–89 season, was the Basingstoke Beavers first ever year of Ice Hockey. They competed in the English League First Division.

Their first ever game was a home challenge match against Bournemouth Sharks on Sunday 17 July 1988. The Beavers won 27-2 and Don Yewchin scored the first goal in the clubs history after only 10 seconds.
