The song was performed thirteenth in the final, to which Belgium was prequalified (following Bosnia and Herzegovina's Deen with "In the Disco" and preceding Russia's Yulia Savicheva with "Believe Me"). At the close of voting, it had received 7 points, placing 22nd. As Belgium did not place within the top 10, they were required to compete in the semi-final in 2005.
The song is an up-tempo Euro disco number, with Xandee singing about the need to take advantage of every opportunity because we only have "one life". Xandee is the stage name of Sandy Boets, a Belgium native who was born on December 18, 1978. "One Life" was Xandee's first single as a solo artist.
It was succeeded as Belgian representative at the 2005 Contest by Nuno Resende with "Le grand soir".
