2002–2003 conflict in the Pool Department

The 2002–2003 conflict in the Pool Department was a military conflict between the government of the Republic of the Congo and the rebel Ninja militia which lasted from 2002 to 2003.[1] It began in March 2002, when clashes between Ninja militias and the government drove thousands of civilians from their homes.[1] In June, a battle in Brazzaville resulted in 100 people being killed.[1] On 12 March 2003, it was reported by the European Commission that the conflict had left 200,000 people "vulnerable and displaced".[2] The conflict ended on 17 March 2003, when the government and the rebels signed a ceasefire.[3]
