The season was suspended by the league officials on March 12, 2020, after several other professional and collegiate sports organizations followed suit as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.[2][3] On May 26, the NHL regular season was officially declared over with the remaining games being cancelled. The Kings missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.[4] This is the first time since the 2008–09 season that the Kings missed the playoffs for consecutive years, despite the fact that the Kings went on a 10–2–1 run in their final 13 games and ended the season on a 7-game winning streak, as well as the fact that 24 teams made the playoffs due to the rest of the regular season being cancelled.
