2020–21 Oklahoma City Thunder season

The 2020–21 Oklahoma City Thunder season is the 13th season of the franchise in Oklahoma City and the 55th in the National Basketball Association (NBA). This is the first season since 2014–15 without head coach Billy Donovan, as he mutually agreed to part ways with the Thunder on September 8, 2020, and 14 days later, went on to become the new head coach of the Chicago Bulls.[1] For the first time since 2012–13, long-time center Steven Adams will not be on the roster, as he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans in a 3-team sign-and-trade deal that also involved the Milwaukee Bucks on November 21. That deal made 3rd-year shooting guard Hamidou Diallo the longest-tenured Thunder player on the roster.

On November 11, the Thunder promoted assistant and former Oklahoma City Blue coach Mark Daigneault as their new head coach, making him the second youngest currently active coach in the NBA, after Ryan Saunders of the Minnesota Timberwolves.[2]

Draft picks

Round Pick Player Position Nationality College/Club team
1 25 Immanuel Quickley PG  United States Kentucky
2 53 Cassius Winston PG  United States Michigan State

Before the start of the 2020 NBA draft period, the Thunder's first-round selection (held by the Denver Nuggets) was stuck as the 25th pick of the draft (while their own pick they traded to the Philadelphia 76ers was originally the 22nd pick) before the NBA suspended their season on March 12, 2020 after discovering a Jazz player had COVID-19 before the Thunder's game against them was suspended.[3] However, while the NBA resumed their season, the selection they had from Denver stayed as the 25th pick of the draft due to tiebreakers. They also held their own second round pick with the Thunder's second-round pick being the 53rd pick of the draft.[4]
