Due to the COVID-19 pandemic (which resulted in the cancellation of last season's men's and women's World Curling Championships), the event will be held in a centralized "bubble" (similar to that of the NHL as hosted by Edmonton and Toronto) at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, which will also host all major Curling Canada championships leading up to the Worlds (including the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier). All events will be held behind closed doors with no spectators.[1][2]
This will be the first event to start the 2022 Winter Olympic Qualification process. The top 5 placing teams will qualify directly for the 2022 Olympics, if the Chinese team finishes outside the top 6 teams then the direct qualifications will expand to the top 6 teams.[3] All teams that qualified for this event, but do not directly qualify for the Olympics through placement will be guaranteed a spot at the 2022 Olympic Qualification event.
