Abid Saaqi


Abid Saaqi is a Pakistani lawyer, was born in 1964 and grew up in Lahore. was elected unopposed as Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council 2020–21, the Apex body of legal fraternity headed by ex.officio chairman Attorney General for Pakistan.[1] He also served as President Lahore High Court Bar Association 2013-14 and Member twice Pakistan Bar Council 2015–21 to 2021–25.[2] He is a senior member of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and active member of Asma Jahangir lawyers Group.[3]

Biography

Saaqi was born and raised in Pakistan, he completed his schooling in his native town and after graduation he admitted in University Law College for law degree of LL.B. He entered in legal profession and involve in the Bar politics and joined Asma Jahangir group, earlier to this he remained associated with People Lawyers Forum. He has good taste of poetry and literature.[4]

He was twice elected member Pakistan Bar Council 2015–21 to 2021-25 and un-opposed Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council 2020–21.,[5][6] Pakistan Bar Council is an elected supreme Body of Legal fraternity to regulate and control legal education in Pakistan and resolve Lawyers and Bar Association's issues. Pakistan Bar Council has twenty two members elected from across the country representing each province.[7] The members of the Pakistan Bar Council are elected on the basis of a single transferable vote by the members of the Provincial Bar Councils (i.e., Punjab Bar Council, Sindh Bar Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Balochistan Bar Council and Islamabad Bar Council).[8][9]

President

He is actively indulgence in the Bar politics and played his effective role to resolve the lawyers problems. Saaqi was elected as a president of Lahore High Court Bar Association 2013-14 from Asma Jahangir's Independent group.[10][5] As a president of the Bar, he maintained a good discipline and try to up-grade Bar to maximum facilitate the lawyers.[11] He contributed a vital role to fill the gab and differences between Bar and Bench and played a role of bridge to bring altogether. Lahore High Court Bar Association is an oldest Bar Association of sub-continent, was established in 1892-93 and its first President was elected in 1893. Similarly in 1910 the Executive Committee of the Bar recommended that the Association should be registered. The General House unanimously accepted the recommendations on 9 June 1910 and it was registered as a Bar Association.[3]
