Tanaka  represented her nation at international competitions. At the 1986 Asian Winter Games she had the third time in the 500 metres event. However, she didn't get the bronze medal and was classified as fourth behind Ye Qiaobo due to a no three-medal sweep per country rule. In the 1000 metres event she finished fourth.[2] She also competed at other international competitions in Germany, Kazakhstan and Russia.[2]
