History

The station opened on 25 December 1938 as Shōwa-mae Station (昭和前駅).[2] It was renamed Akishima Station on 1 October 1959.[2] With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR East.[2]
