Career

Burriss became part of the duo-channel "Wassabi Productions" in 2006, which was founded by Roi Fabito.[1] From their early years on the channel, they created various skits and parody music videos, which often features the fictional characters Rolanda and Richard.[2] They came to international recognition for their parody of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe", which was uploaded in 2012,[3] and as of December 2020, the video has obtained over 140 million views, and is the most-viewed video on the channel.[3]

From 2012 to 2016, they continued to work together and publish videos which often viral; in 2016, Wassabi Productions was one of the most subscribed channels on the platform.[4] In 2016, it was announced that Fabito would leave the duo to work on his own channel, Guava Juice.[5][6] The channel has since been renamed to simply "Wassabi", which is run by Burriss, where he mostly uploads gaming-related content and vlogs.

In 2017, following a series of independent projects, Burriss made his acting debut appearing as Allen in the comedy-horror film Boo 2! A Madea Halloween. The film was a moderate financial success,[7] however it was panned by critics.[8][9] Also in 2017, he was cast in the YouTube Premium series Escape the Night in the show's second season, as The Novelist.[10] In the same year, for his collaboration with The YouTube Factory, which featured personalities such as Lilly Singh and Dwayne Johnson, he received a Streamy Award nomination.[11][12] He received a second Streamy Award nomination in 2018, as well as a Shorty Award nomination for Vlogger of the Year.[13][14]

Burriss later returned to Escape The Night in 2019, appearing in the fourth season as The Aviator,[15] for which he received another Streamy Award nomination for Best Ensemble Cast.[16] Also in 2019, he had a recurring role as Luke Chiba on the Emmy-nominated Hulu series Light as a Feather,[17][18] which he played for 4 episodes, and appeared as himself in Logan Paul's parody film Airplane Mode.[19]

In 2020, Burriss was part of "The Great Gift Exchange", hosted by YouTube, where he gave to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.[20] In 2021, Buriss announced on his channel that he would be going on an indefinite hiatus from YouTube.[21]

Personal life

In 2015, Burriss announced that he was dating YouTuber Lauren Riihimaki,[22] however in 2018, Riihimaki posted on her channel announcing their breakup.[23][24]
