Amitash Pradhan

Amitash (born 12 October 1990) is an Indian film actor known for his works in Tamil, Hollywood and Telugu cinema. He has starred in films such as Vaaranam Aayiram (2008), Velaiilla Pattadhari (2014), Bruce Lee - The Fighter (2015), Hollywood Film Heartbeats (2016), and Vaanam Kottatum (2020). His current film Thalli Pogathey is due for release on 29th January 2021.

Personal life

Amitash was born and brought up in Chennai. Amitash did his schooling in Bala Vidya Mandir, and masters degree in Electronic Media from Anna University. With his passion for acting, he did his Diploma in acting from Anupam Kher's institute in Bombay called AN ACTOR PREPARES.

Early career - Theatre

His fascination and passion for movies began at the age of 6 after watching a Shah Rukh Khan movie with his mother. When he turned 8, Amitash was enrolled in Little Theatre, a popular theatre group in Chennai, and came on stage in his first play with them. Grooming at Little Theatre laid a good foundation and he went on to pursue his acting talent in many of their plays as well as school plays. His association with several experienced and eminent theatre directors and theatre groups like Madras Players shaped his perspectives on acting. He founded Theatron, a theatre club in Anna University, the first of its kind in that institution and introduced many students to stage plays. Under that banner, he directed several plays. He has also directed many other plays.

Vaaranam Aayiram was his introduction to cinema, albeit a tiny role, just as he completed his schooling.

Cinema

His professional acting breakthrough came in 2014 with the blockbuster Tamil film Velaiyilla Pattadhari, in which he plays the role of the main antagonist against Dhanush. The film went on to make waves as the highest grossing Tamil film of 2014 and Amitash got overnight recognition and critical acclaim, one of them being the Best Male Debutante by V4 Entertainment.

Telugu film director Srinu Vaitla, after seeing his potential cast him in his Telugu film Bruce Lee - The Fighter, starring Ram Charan. That was his formal debut in Tollywood though Velaiyilla Pattadhari had been dubbed in Telugu and Amitash had become a familiar and loved face. The Telugu version is called Raghuvaran BTech, again a massive hit.

Hollywood debut in the year 2015 with playing male lead in the movie Heartbeats directed by Duane Adler of the Step Up series was a significant phase for Amitash. He plays the role of Aseem Kapoor, an Indian choreographer with whom Krystal Ellsworth, an American dancer falls in love and the film celebrates their love and the tough path they had to tread. Top cinematographer Ravi Varman wielded the camera for Heartbeats and weaved his magic throughout the film.

Vaanam Kottatum ( transl. Let it rain), a Tamil film marked his association with the prestigious Madras Talkies. Directed by Dhana Sekaran, the film is co-written by Maniratnam.

His next film Thalli Pogathey, a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Ninnu Kori sees Amitash as one of the two male leads alongside Atharva and Anupama Parameswaran , being directed by R Kannan.

Amitash is a part of an anthology called "Kutty Love Story" by 4 eminent directors of South and he features in A L Vijay's episode along with Megha Akash. The anthology is slated for release soon.

Music

Amitash is a singing actor, with music being his first love. Gifted with a mellifluous voice, he has to his credit a Cover "Sing For The Moment", which is a tribute to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Laal Ishq.

During the pandemic lockdown of 2020, he has sung and performed in an independent Tamil music video called "Corona Kannala" which has hit 2.2 million views and has been widely appreciated. The music video has been produced by Kavi Creations in association with Sony Music (south)
