Angela Miri

Angela Freeman Miri is a Nigerian Professor who became the Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja in 2017. She is a professor of English and a published poet.

Life

Miri did her Ph.D in English with her specialization in African and English Literatures, Gender Studies and Creative Writing from the University of Jos.[1][2][3]

In 2004 Malthouse published a collection of over 40 of her own poems titled "Running Waters & othe poems".[4]

In 2017 she became the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja.[5][6]

In November 2018 there was a protest over outstanding payments and staff salaries. Some of the debts dated back to 2017. Miri said that this was due to problems with a computer system.[5] In 2018 she was accused of corruption after a petition was raised at the university which was forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari by the minister of education Adamu Adamu. The case cited large expenses that were to be paid to Professor Miri for a furniture allowance. An investigation was suggested to quell tension in the community.[7] In 2019 she spoke out against those who were conspiring against her accusing her of bias in the was that new employees were chosen.[8]
