Annapurna Studios

Annapurna Studios is a production house established in 1976 by the late Telugu actor Nageswara Rao Akkineni. Located in the heart of Hyderabad city, the 8.9-hectare (22-acre) company mainly produces Telugu films and also provides various production and post-production facilities, including sound stages for set construction, outdoor sets, floors, back-lots, data storage, editing, dubbing, foley/SFX, visual effects, digital intermediate, Dolby vision/HDR, stereo and near field mixing, Dolby Atmos sound mixing, 5.1/7.1/9.1 sound mixing, conforming and mastering, Hd/UHD/DCP mastering, screening theatres among other amenities. In 2011, the Akkineni Family launched a non-profitable educational institute (Annapurna International School of Film and Media). ANR's sons, actor Nagarjuna Akkineni and Venkat Akkineni serve as directors after their father’s demise.

The non-profit Annapurna International School of Film and Media is also situated in the premises of Annapurna Studios.

Foundation

The vision of one man now stands as a tower because of its pillars of support. Decades later, the team of Annapurna stand together and stay true to the quote "Hard work and teamwork go hand in hand". Actor Nageswara Rao Akkineni initiated the establishment of Tollywood film industry to Hyderabad. With the support of the government, he started the studio primarily to encourage this migration. The studio was inaugurated by the then President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed on 14 January 1976.

Studio floors and backlots

Annapurna Studios built its first studio floor in 1976 which spans an area of 1,000 m2 (11,000 sq ft). The second studio was built in 1978 and was dedicated to the workers who had made the construction of the studio possible. This was followed by the construction of two more studios spanning 930 m2 (10,000 sq ft) each. Apart from the Fully equipped 5 air-conditioned and 4 plug-n-play floors, Annapurna Studios also provides pre-built amenities where you can create any interior set of your dream.

In 2011, Annapurna Studios invested in building five new floors wherein the biggest floor spans an area of 1,370 m2 (14,800 sq ft). This new facility features green rooms for artists & technicians, in-house 1520 kV generator capacity, catwalk grids for easy light settings, cyclorama/bluemat for special effects and inbuilt fire-fighting and detection systems. It also includes a 280 m2 (3,000 sq ft) space for dance rehearsals, photo-shoots and press-meets.

Within the first few months this new facility had catered to over 35–40 prominent Tollywood productions including Naayak, Gabbar Singh, Mirchi, Dammu, Julayi, Shadow, Baadshah, Greeku Veerudu and Iddarammayilatho. It also played host to TV Commercial shoots for Malabar Gold, Mahindra Tractor, Joy Allukas, Jos Allukas, Kalyan Jewellers. Shooting of 3D & Reality Show projects is in the pipeline.

ANR Sound and Vision: Post-production

With their Trusted partner Network, Dolby certified facility and Dolby Atmos premier studio, Annapurna post production is a one stop shop for all post production facilities. Non-Linear editing includes AVID Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, Fully Equipped Edit Suites. Dubbing theatres are designed to meet the most demanding criteria for acoustics, audio monitoring. Digital Intermediate includes BARCO 4k Projectors, Baselight Suites, Truelight Color and 40ft X 24ft X 20ft Infrastructure. Dolby Atmos premier sound mixing includes equipped Dolby SLS speakers, 40-seater preview screen with projection and 50ft x 35ft x 20ft infrastructure. Dolby Atmos H.E.T 5.1/7.1/9.1 mixing includes Dolby SLS speakers, 18ft X 14ft X 15ft infrastructure and Near field mixing. Visual effects include compositing, digital assets, 2D Layouts / Animations, Dynamic Effects, Rotoscope, Set Extensions, Digital Matte Painting (DMP), Motion Graphics, Cosmetics/Facials and Cleanups. Conforming and Mastering rooms are equipped with state of the art Conforming and DCP/IMF/HD/UHD Mastering rooms. Digital data storage include film light storage servers, WD hybrid storage servers, more than one petabyte storage capacity, YoYotta software and baselight Flux software. Screening theatres include playback from 2K format DCP, 88-person seating capacity, 7.1 sound system and on hand engineering staff to assist with special requirements. ANR Sound & Vision offers a variety of client lounges, conference room, VIP Parking and first-class pantry services to create a comfortable atmosphere for clients.

Annapurna International School of Film and Media

Annapurna International School of Film and Media is the only privately managed, non-profit film and media school in India.[11]

It is also the only film school in India with government-accredited bachelor's, master's and MBA courses in film related subjects.

The school was launched in August 2011 by Actor & Chairman of Annapurna Studios, Dr. Nageswara Rao Akkineni and the Akkineni family with the intention of giving back to the community through their knowledge and experience in the field.

Many members from across the Indian film industry extended their support towards this non-profit film education. The advisory board includes Shabana Azmi, Mahesh Bhatt, Farah Khan, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Javed Akhtar, Kamal Haasan, Tabu, Anurag Kashyap, Mani Ratnam, Gautham Menon, S. S. Rajamouli, Deva Katta and Krish.
