The Army Public School was attacked by Tehrik-i-Taliban terrorists on 16 December 2014. The ensuing massacre inside the school killed more than 140 people, including approximately 132 students. Following the attack, Pakistani officials announced that the students killed in the school attack will serve as the namesake of more than 120 government schools across the capital city of Islamabad. The attack intensified the War in North-West Pakistan as the Pakistani military continued its counter-insurgency operations against militants operating in the region.
