Arvandkenar is a port city, 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of Abadan, and has oil reserves. Arvandkenar is the last port of Iran on the Arvand river (Arvand rud)

In 2014, around 400 thousand palm trees died here because of the increased salinity, brought on by the Upper Gotvand Dam.
