Career

Early career

In 2008, Aston Oxborough was scouted by Norwich City while he was playing for a local team, Hemsby Hornets.[4] He originally started playing in defence, but was placed in goal due to his height as a youngster.

Oxborough joined the Norwich City academy in 2010 when he was aged 12.[5] On 30 April 2013, aged 15, Oxborough played for the Norwich City Under-18's for the first time against Manchester City Under-18's. This was mostly due to the Under-18's having played in the Youth FA Cup just before the game. In his U18 debut, Norwich fell to a 4–1 defeat to Man City.[6]

In January 2014 Oxborough spent time with an England training camp specifically for goalkeepers. The following February he was called up to the Under-16's England team, where he made his debut against Denmark in a 4–1 win.[7]

Oxborough was offered a Norwich City Academy Scholarship in 2014,[8] with him being offered a two-year contract in 2016, and would play for the Norwich City Development Squad.[9]

In total Oxborough played 23 games for Norwich Under-23's in the Premer League 2. His performances for the development squad were rewarded, and in April 2018 Oxborough signed a new 2-year professional contract with Norwich City.[10]

Norwich City

For the 2018-19 pre-season, Oxborough was listed in the squad for the tour of Germany.[11] He made his first appearance for Norwich during the pre-season friendly against King's Lynn replacing Remi Matthews in the 66th minute.[12]

At the start of the season Oxborough was third choice keeper behind Tim Krul and Michael McGovern. His first involvement with the Norwich first-team came on 19 September 2018, when he was named on the bench for Norwich's Championship match at Reading. Oxborough was an unused substitute as Norwich won the match 2–1.[13]

On 2 August 2019 it was confirmed that Oxborough would be moving to National League South club Wealdstone on a 5-month loan deal until January. He went on to win the National League South with Wealdstone, winning player of the month in September.[14]

In March 2020 he extended his contract with Norwich until the end of June 2022 with an option for a further one year extension.[15]

Oxborough was set to join League 2 side Salford at the start of the 2020 season, however he was halted with a serious Achilles rupture injury.
