BSS Industrial

BSS Industrial is a British specialist distributor of heating, ventilation, pipeline, and mechanical services equipment based in Leicester. The business was previously part of The BSS Group plc until that group's acquisition by the Travis Perkins Group in December 2010.[1] The purchase was officially announced in July 2010.[2]

History

The company was founded in the East Midlands in 1899 as British Steam Specialties.[3] Acquisitions have included specialist valve distributors Pegler & Louden in December 2003.[4]

Other acquisitions by The BSS Group plc include UBM Cadel (rebranded as PTS) in August 1999, Price Tools in March 2006,[5] Buck & Hickman, in April 2007,[6] Birchwood Products in March 2008,[7] Direct Heating Spares in April 2009,[8] and UGS – privately owned underground drainage merchants purchased in February 2010.[9]

The board of BSS accepted an indicative £553 million takeover offer from Travis Perkins on 28 May 2010,[10] an acquisition which was completed on 14 December 2010 when BSS Group shares were delisted from the London Stock Exchange.[11]

Operations

BSS Industrial is a supplier of pipeline, process, heating, and mechanical services equipment. Its customers range from large national contractors to small, local independents. Its primary route to market is via a nationwide network of sixty three branches.[12] A new, bigger branch opened in Birmingham, in November 2014.[13]

New branches of PTS opened in Pembroke Dock in February 2013 and in Enniskillen in March 2020.[14][15]
