Bhattarai

Bhattarai (भट्टराई) is a Khas most common surname used by a certain subgroup belonging to Bahun caste of Nepal and India. Bhattarai is one of the Most common surnames among Nepalese. They are upper ranks. They belong to Vasishtha gotra.[1]

Etymology

Bhattarai is an adjoint surname made up of two Sanskrit titles; Bhatta and Rai. Bhatta means scholar in Sanskrit.[2] and Rai is a substitute for King, meaning 'scholar in king's court'.[3]
