Bishnu Prasad Paudel

Bishnu Prasad Paudel (Nepali: विष्णुप्रसाद पौडेल) is a Nepalese politician, and the current General Secretary of Nepal Communist Party (NCP). He is the current Minister of Finance .

He is the current Member of Parliament from Rupandehi constituency no. 2. He won the election with a margin of 22,000 votes in the parliamentary election of 2017. During the second Constituent Assembly Election in 2013, he defeated the former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai from Rupendehi Constituent No. 4.[1]

Paudel was appointed as the Minister for Finance in 5 November 2015 to 1 August 2016 in KP Sharma Oli’s first Prime Ministership. He got the responsibility of a Defense Minister from 6 February 2011 to 29 August 2011, during the Prime Ministership of Jhala Nath Khanal. He was the Minister for Water Resources from 18 August 2008 to 25 May 2009 under the Prime Ministership of Puspa Kamal Dahal.

At the age of just 37, Paudel got the responsibility of Cabinet Minister for the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture on 12 March 1997 under the Ex-Prime minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand’s Cabinet.

Early life

Bishnu Prasad Paudel was born to Devilal Paudel and Devaki Paudel on 20 November 1959 in Syangja Nepal. He joined politics in 1978. During the Panchayat System in Nepal, he faced jail time.[2] In 1977, he passed the SLC examination and moved to Rupendehi from Syangja to start the career as a Primary School teacher and he influenced by the communist activists. He resigned from the teaching profession and joined the Communist Party at the age of 18. Paudel broke the Bhairahawa Jail and went back to people's movement.

Electoral History

Paudel is a four time parliamentarian. He was an elected member in the 2nd Constituent Assembly from Rupandehi when he competed against former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai who came third.[2]

Controversies

He is said to have facilitated cabinet decisions during the Madhav Kumar Nepal led government in exchange for political favours.[4] The matter is currently being investigate by Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.[5][6]
